Murmurations, by Evan & Summer Hoyt, is an ongoing conceptualization of trauma and instinct influenced by the reality of human trafficking. Begun in 2023, this body of work is interpreted by the large nebulous configurations created by flocks of starlings known as murmurations. Each piece in the series captures a different angle or directive of an evasive flock, such as escape, defense, fear, or anxiety. The streaks, drips, and small rips are reminiscent of the tears and blood shed by those seeking freedom and the distance traveled by so many that have suffered under this form of modern-day slavery.
